The Narrabri Portrait Prize Entry Terms & Conditions
1. Eligibility
Entry is open to artists aged 18 years and over.
Entries must be original works created by the submitting artist.
Works must have been completed within the past two (2) years.
The subject of the portrait must be a current or former resident of the Narrabri Shire, or a person with a strong and verifiable connection to the Narrabri Shire.
Self-portraits are permitted, provided the artist meets the eligibility criteria above.
The artist does not need to reside in the Narrabri Shire.
2. Artwork Requirements
Entries must be painted, drawn or mixed media portraits only. Photography, digital-only works and sculptural works are not eligible.
Portraits must depict a real human person. Animal portraits are not eligible.
All artworks must be created from direct observation, sittings, or reference material used with permission.
The work must represent a real person and not a fictional or AI-generated subject.
Maximum size: 100cm on the longest side, including frame.
Works must be suitably framed or gallery-ready with secure hanging devices attached.
Works exceeding the maximum size or not ready for display will not be accepted.
3. Sitter Connection to Narrabri & Permission
Each entry must include a brief statement (maximum 100 words) outlining the sitter’s connection to the Narrabri Shire.
This may include residency, family ties, work, cultural connection, or a significant personal or historical relationship to the region.
The connection must be genuine and able to be substantiated if requested.
Artists must have permission from the sitter to enter the work.
For deceased sitters, permission must be obtained from the sitter’s next of kin or legal representative.
The organisers reserve the right to request written confirmation of permission.
4. Entry Process & Fee
Artists may submit one (1) entry only.
Entries must be submitted online via the official entry form.
Entries must include a high-quality digital image of the artwork.
Finalists will be selected based on the submitted image.
A non-refundable entry fee of $25 AUD applies per entry.

Artwork title
Medium
Dimensions
Year completed
Sitter details
Sitter connection statement
Optional artist statement (maximum 100 words)
5. Judging & Awards
All entries will be reviewed by a selected judge or judging panel.
Major Prize: $2,000
Supported by Tourist Hotel Narrabri
People’s Choice Award: $500
Supported by Currow Pty Ltd
The People’s Choice Award will be determined by public vote during the exhibition period.
The judge’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
6. Exhibition
Selected finalists will be exhibited at the Tourist Hotel Narrabri.
The organisers reserve the right to select works for exhibition.
Finalist works must be received by 25 September 2026.
Works may be delivered in person or sent via post/courier.
Finalists must follow all delivery instructions provided by the organisers.
All reasonable care will be taken; however, the organisers are not responsible for loss or damage during transit or exhibition.
7. Sales & Commission
Works may be offered for sale during the exhibition.
A commission of 25% will be retained by the organisers/venue on any works sold.
Artists must indicate the sale price at the time of entry.
8. Image Reproduction
By entering, artists grant permission for images of their work to be reproduced for promotional purposes, including social media, website use, print materials and press coverage.
9. Key Dates
Entries close: Midnight, Saturday 5 September 2026
Finalists announced: Friday 11 September 2026
Finalist works due: Friday 25 September 2026
Exhibition dates: 9–23 October 2026
Opening Night & Major Prize Announcement: Friday 9 October 2026
In Conversation With…: Friday 16 October 2026
People’s Choice Award announced: Friday 23 October 2026
10. Agreement
Submission of an entry constitutes acceptance of these Terms & Conditions.
